CHEER CLUB

Senior Cheer Club met on July 6 for a picnic luncheon at Bald Eagle State Park. It was a sunny, summer day for the outdoor picnic. Following the picnic club President Larry Butler called the meeting to order and all stood to recite the pledge to the flag and The Lord’s Prayer. Judy Cain provided the Bible devotions taken from Isaiah 52, verses 1-12.

Club Secretary Jane Confer gave her report. Janie also gave the roll call of attendance. There were 20 members present and three guests. The guests included Janie’s great-grandchildren, Kyle Witherite, 12, and his sister, Hazel Witherite, 9. Tammi (Miller) Van Horn was the third guest, and she has now become a club member. Tammi recently retired and is looking forward to enjoying her retirement by traveling and doing things with friends who live in the Ridge Crest community near her. We’re happy to have Tammi join us and look forward to many years of her attending Cheer Club with us.

The treasurer’s report was given. Each person paid their $2 monthly dues for a total of $39. A recent donation was made to Ted Parker to assist with his medical and traveling expenses following his chemo treatments for throat cancer.

Ted and his family remain in our thoughts and prayers, as well as club member Deb Young who had a recent hospital stay.

Sympathy is extended to the family of club member Kathleen Snavely. Kathleen lived in Beech Creek and passed away on June 17, 2023. A donation in Kathleen’s memory will be made to the FCC to honor her being a Senior Cheer member. Sympathy is also extended to club member Marilyn Ream following the recent death of her sister.

Happy Birthday wishes are hoped for Becky Holter, who celebrated her birthday on July 20. Becky and her husband, Russell, live in Howard. We hope Becky and Russell can join us for future club meetings.

Larry is going to check in with the tour bus companies to see what might be available as one-day outings. Possible trips include going to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, and maybe other trips while the weather is nice.

Larry told a joke about a blonde whose cat lost it’s tail in a weed whacker mishap. But, she quickly took the cat to Walmart, because she’d heard that Walmart was the biggest “retailer” around here.

The door prize was brought by Ann Williams and was won by Marie Sanner, who will bring the door prize to the next club meeting.

Thanks to the Crafty Sisters for providing the tablecloths and patriotic table decorations in celebration of our freedom and independence. The Crafty Sisters will be selling their handmade crafts at the Clinton County Fair, so look for them there.

The next Cheer Club meeting will be held on Aug. 3 at noon at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek. Anyone 55 years and older is invited to join us. Bring a covered dish to share and invite a friend to come along. We’ll be playing Bingo games at the August meeting. More info on Senior Cheer Club can be obtained by calling Larry at 570-726-6635 or Fay at 570-962-2080 (or just come to the next meeting and fellowship with us!)
