The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline. Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

Submit items at least one week in advance via email, [email protected]; call (717) 248-6741; online, Virtual Newsroom at www.lewistownsentinel.com; or mail or drop off, The Sentinel, 352 Sixth St., P.O. Box 588 Lewistown, PA 17044. The editor reserves the right to edit all submissions.

You must include a telephone number for verification purposes. The phone number is not for publication, unless so indicated.

Reserve Now:

• Aviation ground school — 6:30-8:30 p.m., begins Sept. 13. Sign up for a 14-week course sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association. Must register to participate. For registration form, email [email protected] or call (717) 899-0138.

Thursday, Aug. 10

• Sacred Heart Thrift Shop bag sale — 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 4 N. Dorcas St. in Lewistown. Clothing and shoes $5 per bag.

• Kish Class of 1966 ladies lunch — 11:15 a.m., Bel-Vue Inn, Reedsville.

• MCC/PASR Picnic — Gather at 11:30 a.m. – meal at noon at Kish Park green pavilion. Bring meats, salads, side dishes or desserts. Place settings and bottled water provided. Chicken not provided. Electrical outlets available for foods. 50/50 drawing (Scholarship Fund) and Bingo after lunch.

• CLHS Class of 1960 luncheon — noon, Kountry Kitchen, McVeytown.

• Bingo — 1 p.m., Yeagertown Senior Center.

• LHS Class of 1960 luncheon — 12:30 p.m. at the Iron River Grille, Lewistown Country Club.

• Captain Jack / Mount Union Area High School dinner — 6 p.m. at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, Lewistown.

Friday, Aug. 11

• Coffee with friends — 9 a.m.-noon at Lack-Tuscarora EMS, 9320 South Route 75, East Waterford.

• Sacred Heart Thrift Shop bag sale — 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 4 N. Dorcas St. in Lewistown. Clothing and shoes $5 per bag.

• Single mom support group — 6:30-8 p.m., New Life Church Cafe, 101 Beech St., Burnham. Dinner served from 6:30-7 for mothers and children. Child care from 7-8 while mothers meet in a group. More information: call or text (717) 437-4946.

Saturday, Aug.12

• Fly-in, Drive-in, Walk-in breakfast — 8-10:30 a.m. at the EAA Club House, Mifflin County Airport Hanger 4. “World Famous Omelet” plus your favorite side dishes. Sponsored by Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 518.

• LHS Class of 1958 breakfast — 9 a.m. at Honey Creek Inn in Reedsville. Classmates, spouses and friends are invited. Call (717) 667-2389 for more information.

• Chicken barbecue fundraising event — Ready at 10:30 a.m., West Granville Township Fire Co. Call to pre-order (717) 248-0665.

• LHS Class of 1965 luncheon — 11 a.m. at The Restaurant, 10475 Rte. 522 S. in Lewistown. All classmates, spouses and guests are welcome.

• Keystone State Muscle Cars Cruise Ins –5-8 p.m., auction barn across from Rutters in Milroy. All cars, trucks, bikes are welcome. No membership needed. For more information, call (717) 437-6050. (Runs through end of October)
